The Modernisation project comprises :

• Hall infrastructure - replacement and modernisation of heating, lighting, electrics, plumbing, catering and toilet facilities

• Provision of additional space and storage via an extension at the east end of the building (across the top end of the car park)

• Provision of showers, baby change facilities, mezzanine meeting room, enlarged reception space and more storage space with improved access for all by levelling the floors at the west end and raising the roof to create the required space

• Installation of superfast broadband, audio visual equipment (projector and large retractable screen), video display for promoting community activities in the reception area, electric vehicle charging point and portable staging

• The last phase of work will be the opening up of the space above the main hall and the restoration of remaining heritage features in order to provide additional exhibition and meeting space which will provide an element of "future proofing" the hall to meet as yet unknown needs of new and different user groups. This phase has been deferred for at least 2 years so that the Steering Group can focus on getting the other works completed first
